About Tammy Irons
Tammy is married to Curley Hallman, former head football coach of Southern Miss and LSU. Her parents are Tommy and Jo Irons.
Tammy is the owner of the Irons Law Firm. Prior to that
she served as Judicial Law Clerk to the Presiding Judge of the Tennessee Court of Appeals and received her Law Degree from the University of Memphis and Accounting Degree from the University of North Alabama. Tammy graduated from Central High School and is a member of the Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ.
As a State Representative, Tammy was awarded the Howell T. Heflin Justice Award, the highest award given by the Unified Judicial System, by Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb for her work on the Juvenile Justice Reform Act, signed into law by the Governor.
For the first time in the history of the Shoals, during her term in the Alabama Legislature, Rep. Irons organized
and hosted a visit to the Shoals by the Tennessee Valley Caucus (consisting of 21 members of the Alabama House of Representatives).While in the Shoals, the Caucus held public hearings to learn about the needs of Colbert and Lauderdale Counties while Irons scheduled tours of local tourist attractions to showcase Colbert and Lauderdale Counties. Rep. Irons also hosted the Alabama Speaker of the House, Seth Hammett, for a visit to the Shoals to meet with local officials and business leaders during her term in the Alabama House of Representatives.
During her term in the Alabama Legislature, Tammy:
Led the successful fight to return millions of dollars back to North Alabama which until recently had been appropriated to areas in South Alabama.
Passed a law to establish incentives to create jobs, attract companies to the Shoals (including the rail car plant) and to provide for infrastructure.
Sponsored and successfully passed the Juvenile Justice Reform Act, helping thousands of our state's children and saving millions of dollars for our state.
Led the fight in the Shoals and across the state to stop elderly abuse as Chair of the Elder Justice committee.
Sponsored and passed a bill to stop other cities and counties from siphoning off millions of gallons of water from our Tennessee River in order to protect our river for tourism, recreational use and economic development.
Secured millions of dollars of funding for projects in the Shoals for our schools, University of North Alabama, Northwest Shoals Community College, domestic violence shelters, senior centers, community centers, volunteer fire departments, chamber of commerce, economic development efforts and promoting local farm commodities.
Voted to successfully eliminate sales tax during the weekend before school start date to help our parents and grandparents with purchases of back to school supplies and clothes.
Voted to give a larger income tax deduction for businesses and employees for health insurance premiums they pay.
Voted to allow taxpayers to deduct contributions made to college savings plans for income tax purposes.
Voted to impose penalties on state contractors who hire illegal aliens.
Supported ethics reform by voting to:
- Ban PAC to PAC transfers for campaign contributions
- Require those seeking no-bid contracts with the Governor’s office to register as a lobbyist
- Prohibit hiding “pass-through pork” in the state budgets
- Grant subpoena power to the ethics commission
